What is a Float Value in CS2?

Float Value is a number tied to each skin in Counter-Strike 2 that determines the amount of wear it has, which includes scratches, color fade, and other wear marks. However, most gamers who hear about Float Value for the first time mistakenly jump to the conclusion that skins in CS2 accumulate wear as you play with them. But that’s not the case.

The thing is, Valve designed CS2 skins to look completely different from each other. Even if you pick two of the same skins, like the M4A4 Desolate Space, they won’t have the same appearance because one will have slightly more wear, which is determined by Float Value.

Float Value is assigned to a skin when it comes out of a case. Once assigned, the Float Value can never change, which means a CS2 skin will always have the same amount of wear, no matter how much you use it.

Float Value starts from 0.00 to 1.00. The lower the Float Value, the better the skin looks. This range has five categories of wear, which include:

  • Factory New: 0.00 to 0.07;
  • Minimal Wear: 0.07 to 0.15;
  • Field-Tested: 0.15 to 0.38;
  • Well-Worn: 0.38 to 0.45;
  • Battle-Scarred: 0.45 to 1.00.

Float Value plays a significant role in the CS2 skin market. It directly impacts a skin’s appearance and price, with lower values generally offering cleaner, less-worn visuals and higher resale potential. Always keep an eye on the Float Value when buying or selling to ensure you’re getting the quality and value you expect.
