Getting VAC Banned For Playing With A Hacker

The short answer is no. You won’t get a VAC ban if you accidentally enter a match where a hacker is on your team. That’s because the Valve Anti-Cheat system only flags users with cheating software installed on their computers. Since being on the same team as someone using cheating software doesn’t necessarily mean you also have cheating software installed on your computer, you don’t have to worry about getting a VAC ban.

However, cheating is cheating, and Valve takes it very seriously. There is zero tolerance for players using ANY unfair advantage, which includes info that a hacker in your team may provide you. For example, if a hacker using wall hacks to see enemy players through walls tells you exactly where to shoot, and you get kills because of that information, it will be considered cheating.

Valve also has another anti-cheat system implemented in CS2 called Overwatch. It works by showing gameplay footage of players with multiple reports to reputable players and asking for their opinions on whether they think the player was hacking. So, if you use the info provided by a hacker to get kills, it will show up in your gameplay footage, and you may end up getting banned for it. And, yes, there have been instances where that actually happened.

Conclusion

So, will you get banned for playing with a cheater/hacker? Technically, no. Playing with a hacker or cheater isn’t against the rules. However, cheating is against the rules, whether it’s you who’s using the cheating software or a teammate using the software and then giving you the info. To be safe, always mute and report hackers on your team.
